Performance Improvements

The OurDisk development team (Lyndon in particular) has been busy in recent months. This has resulted in some significant performance improvements to speed and usability across the OurDisk application.

So what’s happened?

It’s very technical, so I won’t go into too much detail but essentially we have changed how the application manages it’s memory usage to free up the ability for the server infrastructure to spend more time dealing with the key tasks that are most important.

The affects are:

Faster navigation between categories and folders
Faster uploads
Faster downloads
Across the board a 20% speed improvement!

We have also addressed a few usability issues in the group/user management area and planned our next release of features for release in the new year.

Video streaming released

OurDisk proudly announces video streaming in our latest upgrade. Due to high demand from our media agency clients, OurDisk has now introduced video streaming. Watch videos right inside OurDisk without downloading them. It’s a great way to share daily rushes or location shots with your production team within minutes.

Here’s an example:

You have filmed your day’s rushes and need feedback quickly from key stakeholders. Instead of burning to DVD and sending via the post, costing you valuable time and money, you can upload it to OurDisk.

Your client or team can view it immediately using their own secure login to access the videos. When your client logs in they don’t need to download the file, they can simply view it in the browser.

Each user can add notes about the file if you give them permission to do so. You can even track whether your client has logged to see the file.

Another exciting addition will be the ability to view your video files streaming to your mobile phone or iPad (due for release very soon).

OurDisk – The Perfect Mothers’ Day Gift

Traditionally OurDisk is a commercial product. It’s a straight up and down business tool to help businesses share their documents.

Traditionally mothers are baby boomers that say ‘radical’ out of context and remind you to call your sister a lot.

Who the hell has the time to look at 40 million baby photos anyway?

OurDisk is turning 2! (V 2.0 that is)

Version one of our document management software OurDisk has been very well received across a range of different markets with our client base growing every day. Thanks to valuable feedback from our customers over the last 9 months, we now have a whole bunch of feature requests that have gone into the melting pot for OurDisk 2.0.

We are very excited about the result getting closer to release as we continue to echo our passion for building user-friendly web software that makes doing business easier.

Whilst the core of the app remains the same, improvements include a revised file navigation interface to cater for clients with hundreds of categories, files and users. Also, smarter communication tools for notifying your clients of file updates and rich reporting for administrators are also added to the mix.

For the techies out there, we are also adding 2048bit file encryption – the best on market to ensure security of your documents.

You can now do full text searches in OURDISK™. We have upgraded the search engine to allow you to search for any word or phrase within a document. It works with MS Word (.doc and .docx), PDF, TXT and RTF files. It will also work with some Omni files for mac.

It’s lightening fast! As you upload each file, OURDISK™ scans the text and indexes it ready for your next search.
